When Violet was five years old, she was hit by a car. Dorothy, her seven year old sister, was going across the street to get change for the tavern for her mother. She was suppose to take Violet with her, and as Dorothy hurried on,
Violet ran across the street to catch up to Dorothy, she was struck ba a car.

For many moths Violet laid in a hospital bed in a body cast up to her neck. As an experiment, a young orthopedic doctor, named Dr. Ziegy decided to piece her leg together, instead of cutting it off. Doctors put her leg together as best
as they could, but her crushed leg was much shorter than her other one, so they made her a brace that she has worn all her life. The Westphal Brace. The experiment was written in medical books. In spite of all the pain and suffering she went
through as a small child, she hopped and ran and played heart out. Being a very vivacious young girl, she won the heart of Henry at the age of 13 years old.
