[5]
Obituary: Carl Emil Yeske, a pioneer resident of West Germany, Monroe County, Wisconsin, was a native of Provinsposen, Bromberg, Germany, born July 4th., 1844. He was reared to manhood in Germany, and there united in Marriage to
Wilhelmina Birkholtz in 1868. In 1882 Mr. Yeskie and his family came to the United States and the state of Wisconsin, locating in the West Germany settlement of Monroe County, where he resided continuously until his death, which ocurred on
Saturday evening, July 7th, 1923, at the age of 79 years and three days. The cause of death was pneumonia and infirmities of old age.
[6]
The union of Carl Yeske and wife was blessed with twelve children, four of whom preceded the father in death. Those living are: Otto E. Yeske, Cataract; Ida Ottelga Yeske, Superior; Agnes J. Bock, Isabel, S.D.; Hulda Kipp, Gardner,
Fla.; Ella A. Hanke, Melrose; Herman Yeske, Melrose; Bertha Stratton, B. R. Falls; Anna A. Young, Cataract. There are twenty grand-children and one Great-grandchild. He is survived by two brothers Ed and Fred Yeske, and two sisters Mrs. Minnie
Hartung and Mrs. Tilda Nenast.
[7]
The funeral services were held at his late home on Wednesday, July 11th, conducted by the German Lutheran Minister from Sparta and interment was made in the Printzville cemetery. F. H. Smith undertaker from Melrose had charge of the
arrangements.
[8]
There was a large attendance of sorrowing relatives, friends, and neighbors. Carl Yeske was a quite home-loving industrious man, greatly esteemed by all who were favored with his acquaintance. He will be greatly missed in the community
where he has resided so many years, and especially so by his aged widow, whose health has been poorly and for whose comfort and care the deceased was so interested and concerned. Thus one by one the pioneers who blazed the way for better
comfort for those who follow themm, are passing on.
