Obituary: Mrs. Charles Yeskie, of Alma Center, passed away Saturday Morning, February 11, 1933, at the Krohn Hospital, where she was brought the previous day following a terrible accident in which at least three-quarters of her body was
affected by burns.
[532]
The accident occurred at her home Friday forenoon. She was standing near a heater and her clothes ignited. It happened so quickly that although there were other members of the family were right there the flames were not extinguished until
she had received fatal injuries. She rushed by Mr. Yeskie and out of doors before she could be caught. It all happened so quickly that all present were in a panic. Mrs. Yeskie was at once brought to the Krohn clinic, and the fact that the car
in which she was brought was stalled in the snow delayed the trip an additional half hour and prolonged her suffering. There was little that could be done for her except to ease her last hours as a body that is three-quarters burned is usually
a fatal case.
[533]
Nellie Amborn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Amborn, was born in La Crosse County, Feb. 3, 1885, and was 48 years, 8 days at the time of her death. She was married Aug. 6, 1906 to Charles Yeskie, who with eleven children are living to
mourn the loss of their wife and mother. They are Maynard and Harold; Mildred (Mrs. Harold Meyers) of La Crosse; Harriet (Mrs. Frank Svadou{Svoboda}) of Hixton; Merlin, Esther, Ruth, Alice,Harley, James, and Robert, and two grandchildren. Two
sons preceded her in death, Spencer and Vilas six years ago.
[534] Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Melrose, Wis., February 15th, and she was laid to rest by the side of her two sons in the Melrose cemetery
[535]
Besides her immediate family, she leaves her aged mother, six sisters and two brothers, Ella (Mrs. Martin Hoekstra) of Forest Lake, Minn.,; Rose(Mrs. Wm. Young) of Melrose; Addie (Mrs. Price Bullock) of Long Beach, Calif.; Susie (Mrs.
Hugh Smith) of Burr Oak; Agnes (Mrs. Ben Waldhoff) of Cloquette, Minn.; Millie (Mrs. Clarence Kaas) of Sechlerville; Harry of Taylor; Orrie of Burr Oak. All of whom except Mrs. Bullock and Mrs. Waldhoff, were in attrendance at the funeral, and
many other relatives and friends mourn her untimely death.
[536]
Services were conducted by Rev. C. W. Hanscom of Melrose M. E. Church. Song service by Mrs. Olga Gilbertson and Mrs. Florence Gilbertson and Mrs. Bessie Gilbert at the piano. The flower girls were nieces of the deceased, Mrs. Oscar
Decker, Mrs Art Hamilton, Irene and Helen Yeske. The pall bearers were Walter and Willie Young, Fred and Herbert Storandt, Art and Alfred Schlifer.
[537] Mrs. Yeskie was always held in high esteem by all in her community.
